Sharing of Knowledge between Southeast Asian and Latin American Countries on Trade and Investments
A project of the ASEAN Foundation & Inter-American Development Bank
About the Project
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the ASEAN Foundation have entered into a partnership to promote the transfer of knowledge between Southeast Asia and Latin American countries on trade and investment and enhance collaboration between the two regions through inter-regional linkages. This is the very first such partnership between IDB and ASEAN. Through a grant from the Inter-American Development Bank, three workshops will be conducted with the objective of enhancing trade and investment relations between ASEAN and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) countries through information exchange and networking. It also aims to contribute to improving economic relations between the two regions as well as understanding issues and concerns related to trade and investment.
The workshops specifically aim to:
- Raise awareness about SEA and LAC trade relations through exchange of knowledge and best practices, and
- Encourage resource mobilization to support new initiatives addressing critical needs in specific areas in order to enhance economic ties between the two regions.
To date, two activities were conducted under this project, namely, the regional workshop on "Prospects of Economic Relations between Southeast Asia and Latin America: Some Policy Options including Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)" held in Jakarta, Indonesia on 12 October 2009 and the Latin Business Forum held on 18 November 2010 in Bangkok, Thailand.
