APEX visits Yangon to Commence Preparations for the One ASEAN Tour

Following a series of successful ASEAN Puppet Exchange projects across Southeast Asia, over 20 puppet artists and musicians from the ASEAN Puppet Exchange (APEX) collective will be in Yangon, Myanmar from 9 – 16 May 2016 to begin work on a One ASEAN puppet performance. Artist to artist workshops for ASEAN’s arts and culture development will be held at the Laurel Art Academy, organised by local puppet troupe Htwe Oo Myanmar. Puppeteers and musicians from Brunei, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Singapore, and Viet Nam will come together to join Myanmar’s artists to develop the first of three combined puppet and music performances this year. The remaining ASEAN Member States will be involved in the second and third performances in 2016. Two showings from the APEX visit will be held at 6.30pm on the 12th of May and 6.30pm on 15th May at Laurel Art Academy’s hall.

It started quite clumsy as no one really knew each other when they arrived at Kasetsart University (KU) Home Hotel on 27 March 2016. But toward the end of the study tour, the ASEAN Learning Route on Agricultural Cooperatives (ALRAC) has successfully forged friendships, solidarity and most importantly, a common understanding among ASEAN farmers and government officials on what needs to be done for ASEAN farmers to be able to relish a slice of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Pie.

A second opportunity for ASEAN students to participate in the mobility semester programme at Kyoto University in October 2016, awaits. This time around, Japanese students from Kyoto University will also be eligible to do a semester away in an ASEAN university that is a member of the ASEAN University Network.
