ASEAN Foundation promotes ASEAN awareness among visiting ASEAN journalists

The ASEAN Foundation recently received 14 visiting journalists from various ASEAN countries. Several staff members of the ASEAN Foundation gave lectures and presentations on the history of the establishment of ASEAN and the ASEAN Foundation, and in particular, the various programs and activities supported by the Foundation in line with its mandate of promoting ASEAN awareness and identity, enhancing interaction among ASEAN stakeholders, and developing human capacity. The presentations included the ASEAN Quest, a novel computer game developed by the ASEAN Foundation that enables the player to learn about ASEAN while pursuing a challenging quest of establishing the ASEAN energy grid; the flagship programs of the ASEAN Foundation such as Friends of ASEAN, AF scholarship program, and CSR ASEAN; and the ASEAN Foundation-supported search for ASEAN Champions of Biodiversity. The journalists had a brief call and photo session with the Executive Director of the ASEAN Foundation, Dr. Filemon A. Uriarte, Jr.

The 14 journalists come from various media group namely Borneo Bulletin (Brunei Darussalam), The Phnom Penh Post and Economics Today (Cambodia), Penyuluh Magazine and Republika Online (Indonesia), Lao News Agency (Lao PDR), Bangkok Post and Si-Phaya Daily News (Thailand), Vietnam Financial Review, Gia Dinh and Xa Hoi Newspaper, Xinhua News Agency and VietNamNet Online Newspaper (Viet Nam). They are participating in a training program organized by the Inwent - Capacity Building International, Germany, aimed at enriching the journalists’ understanding of the concept of regional integration and of the history, institutions and policies of ASEAN to improve the quality of media reporting on ASEAN matters. The group was accompanied by Inwent officials.
