German Ambassador calls on ASEAN Foundation Executive Director
The Executive Director of the ASEAN Foundation, Dr. Filemon A. Uriarte, Jr., received H.E. Dr. Norbert Baas, the German Ambassador to ASEAN and concurrently the Ambassador of Germany to Indonesia and Timor-Leste, during the latter’s visit to the office of the ASEAN Foundation in Jakarta, Indonesia on 12 March 2010.
Following the entry into force of the ASEAN Charter, various countries have appointed ambassadors to ASEAN, including the European Union, as one of ASEAN’s Dialogue Partners, which announced that each of its 27 Member States shall appoint an ambassador to ASEAN, in addition to the European Commission.
Dr. Uriarte briefed Ambassador Baas on the mandate and activities of the ASEAN Foundation, including CSR ASEAN, Friends of ASEAN and the scholarship program. He also presented the Ambassador a copy of ASEAN Quest, a challenging computer game that provides information about ASEAN, and a copy of his latest book, Introduction to Knowledge Management. In response, Ambassador Baas expressed his support to the programs of the ASEAN Foundation and conveyed the importance of promoting cooperation between Germany and ASEAN. They agreed to continue the dialogue between their two offices to explore various ways to establish a working and lasting partnership.
