Courtesy Call of Mr. Kenji Matsumoto, Deputy Secretary General of SEAFDEC
Deputy Secretary General of Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), Mr. Kenji Matsumoto made a courtesy call to Executive Director of ASEAN Foundation, Dr. Makarim Wibisono on December 8, 2011 at ASEAN Foundation Secretariat in Jakarta. Mr. Matsumoto was accompanied by Dr. Choomjet Karjanakesona, Minister Counsellor from the Office of Agricultural Affairs, Royal Thai Embassy in Jakarta. Mr. Kenji Matsumoto during the meeting expressed his appreciation to the ASEAN Foundation for its support to many SEAFDEC projects and activities. He utilized the opportunity to present the SEAFDEC planning to implement agreements made in the ASEAN-SEAFDEC Conference on Sustainable Fisheries for Food Security Toward 2020.
The Executive Director of ASEAN Foundation, Dr. Makarim Wibisono pointed out that ASEAN Foundation attaches great importance on the sustainable development of fisheries in ASEAN. Dr. Makarim Wibisono mentioned that ASEAN Foundation has been active in supporting SEAFDEC’s activities on the enhancement of human capacity of fishers in ASEAN member states. The SEAFDEC projects that were supported by ASEAN Foundation among others are Promotion on One Village, One Fisheries Products (FOVOP), HRD for Sustainable Development of Fisheries in BIMP-EAGA Region and HRD on Poverty Alleviation and Food Security by Fisheries intervention in the ASEAN region.
The ASEAN Foundation was established by the ASEAN Leaders in December 1997 during ASEAN’s 30th Anniversary Commemorative Summit to help bring about shared prosperity and a sustainable future to all 10 ASEAN Member Countries, namely, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam.
