ASEAN Foundation and the Expert Group Meeting on Foreign Policy
Executive Director of ASEAN Foundation, Dr. Makarim Wibisono was invited to be one of discussants in the Expert Group Meeting organized by the Indonesian Foreign Ministry in the Panghegar Hotel, Bandung on December 17, 2011. The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Wardana pointed out that this expert group meeting was designed to be a forum that collects inputs from different stakeholders on the opportunities in the regional and global fora that can be capitalized for supporting the Indonesian development.
There were three senior officials of the Foreign Ministry made their presentations. Ambassador T. Hamzah Thayeb, the Director General for Asia, Pacific and African Affairs briefed the meeting on the strategic development in Asia, Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. Ambassador Retno P. Marsudi, Director General for American and European Affairs made presentation on the strategic development on the American and European economic, politics and security matters. Ambassador Djauhari Oratmangun, the Director General of ASEAN Affairs made presentation on the recent ASEAN Summit agreement on economic matters. Mr. Ghafur A. Dharmaputera representing Director General for Multilateral Affairs analized the dynamic of multilateral negotiations.
The Chairman of the first Commission of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Drs. Mahfudz Siddiq, MSi. accompanied by other members such as Mr. Mohammad Najib, Ms. Lily Wachid, and Mr. Effendi Choirie were actively participated in the deliberation. Dr. Makarim Wibisono, Dr. Zainuddin Djafar, Dr. Kusnanto Anggoro, Dr. Rifki Muna, Dr. Edie Prasetijono, Prof. Dr. Yanyan Muammad Yani and Prof. Dr. Aleksius Djemadu were discussants on the presentations.
The ASEAN Foundation was established by the ASEAN Leaders in December 1997 during ASEAN’s 30th Anniversary Commemorative Summit to help bring about shared prosperity and a sustainable future to all 10 ASEAN Member Countries, namely, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam.
