Mr. Magnus Lindell paid a courtesy call to the Executive Director of ASEAN Foundation

The Director of the External Relations and Communications Department of UNRWA, Mr. Magnus Lindell, accompanied by Mr. Nozomu Kamiya, the Senior External Relations and Projects Officer of UNRWA, the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees paid a courtesy call to the Executive Director of the ASEAN Foundation, Dr. Makarim Wibisono, on February 7, 2012. In this opportunity, Mr. Magnus Lindell explained the UNRWA activities in recent years in handling Palestine refugees in the Middle East. The UNRWA informed that the Government of Indonesia has increased its contribution remarkably to the UNRWA for its 2012’s budget.

The Executive Director of ASEAN Foundation, Dr. Makarim Wibisono made a comprehensive explanation on the history of the ASEAN Foundation and its mandates according to the article 15 of the ASEAN Charter. Dr. Makarim Wibisono pointed out that ASEAN Foundation is mandated to support ASEAN community-building. In addition, ASEAN Foundation has to promote greater awareness of the ASEAN identity, people-to-people interaction, and close collaboration among the business sector, civil society, academia and other stakeholders in ASEAN. At that opportunity, Mr. Magnus Lindell expressed that the UNRWA has its interest to cooperate with the ASEAN Foundation on the issue of refugees.
