VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The ASEAN Foundation is now inviting nationals of ASEAN Member States (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam) to apply for the following vacancy:
Executive Director
The ASEAN Foundation was established in 1997 by the ASEAN Foreign Ministers in fulfilment of a decision made earlier by the ASEAN Heads of States/Government to create a non-profit inter-governmental organisation based in Jakarta, Indonesia with the aim of raising public awareness about ASEAN and to contribute to progress of the ASEAN region by addressing poverty and other socio-economic disparity issues as well as encouraging interaction among various ASEAN stakeholders. It is embodied in Article 15 of the ASEAN Charter to support the Secretary-General of ASEAN and collaborate with the relevant ASEAN bodies to support ASEAN community building by promoting greater awareness of the ASEAN identity, people-to-people interaction, and close collaboration among the business sector, civil society, academia and other stakeholders in ASEAN.
Function
The Executive Director shall represent the ASEAN Foundation in all administrative and operational matters, including managing its activities, initiating plans and programmes, appointing and supervising the staff members, raising funds, and performing any other functions and responsibilities entrusted to him/her by the Board of Trustees.
Qualifications
The Executive Director shall:
- Be a national of an ASEAN Member State.
- Have a degree in an appropriate discipline, preferably with post-graduate degree.
- Have at least 15 years of professional experience, at least 10 of which have been at a senior management level.
- Have a good track record and proven skills in leadership, administration, executive management and planning.
- Have knowledge of the necessary and relevant background on ASEAN and preferably familiarity with diplomatic practices.
- Have a good record and substantial experience in fund-raising.
- Be fluent in English.
It would also be advantageous for the Executive Director to have an established and good working relationship including with governments of ASEAN Member States and ASEAN Dialogue Partners, international and regional bodies, aid agencies, relevant non-governmental organisations, senior management in private sector corporations, and influential people in various foundations, donor organizations, and civil society organizations especially within the Southeast Asia region.
Remuneration
The successful candidate will receive an attractive package consisting of competitive basic salary and other applicable benefits, including housing, medical, education of dependent children, and entertainment allowances.
The post will be based in Jakarta, Indonesia, for a non-renewable term of three years starting in mid-January 2011.
