The ASEAN Foundation with support from SAP is once again running the ASEAN Digital Empowerment in 2023. The programme aims to provide students across the ASEAN region with free access to SAP online learning platform (https://learning.sap.com/student-zone) to learn and master various SAP products, especially SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) and grant free SAP certification examination code. The ultimate goal of the programme is to upskill the students with various IT skills, enabling them to strive and compete in the labour market. The platform provides varying courses aligned with the crucial skills as referred by the World Economic Forum (WEF), especially on Data Science and Computer sciences; a skill applicable in a broad scope of career paths in varying industries

Background

The ASEAN Foundation with support from SAP is once again running the ASEAN Digital Empowerment in 2023. The programme aims to provide students across the ASEAN region with free access to SAP online learning platform (https://learning.sap.com/student-zone) to learn and master various SAP products, especially SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) and grant free SAP certification examination code. The ultimate goal of the programme is to upskill the students with various IT skills, enabling them to strive and compete in the labour market. The platform provides varying courses aligned with the crucial skills as referred by the World Economic Forum (WEF), especially on Data Science and Computer sciences; a skill applicable in a broad scope of career paths in varying industries and sectors.

Numerous companies across the globe have been utilising SAC for analytics and business intelligence. These companies include Exxon Mobil, Royal Dutch Shell, CVS Health Corporation, and CIGNA Corporation. Youths registering and passing the certification examination will have higher employment opportunity at these companies. This is in line with what recently was stated in a study by the Pearson Value of IT Certification (VUE), where certification is proven to be beneficial to drive career growth and increase earning potential. Along with providing learning platforms, this initiative will also provide youths with guidance from SAP experts (monthly mentorship with trained SAP trainers on various subjects and unit, a monthly live question and answer session by trained SAP trainers, and exam try-out near the exam schedule), and an examination code for free SAP certification. To date, SAP offers 142 certifications exams in 9 languages from associate to professional level.

Through this initiative, the ASEAN Foundation and SAP will provide free access and certification exam code for up to 750 students aged 18 to 30. This year, the programme will focus in distributing certification on SAC (SAP Analytics Cloud) due to the increasing demand for young talents in this SAP’s solution as well as data analytics. All selected youths will also gain access to learning materials to prepare for a professional SAP Global Certification (https://learning.sap.com/learning-journey/explore-sap-analytics-cloud) – increasing youths' career opportunities and potential in the global job market.

Benefits

Selected youths will get access to SAC online self-learning platform (https://learning.sap.com/learning-journey/explore-sap-analytics-cloud) to take the SAC course until 31 December 2023 for practice prior to the exam. To help the selected youth preparing the exam, they will also be enrolled in enrichment sessions, covering monthly mentorship with trained SAP colleagues on various subjects and learning unit, a monthly live question and answer session by trained SAP colleagues, and exam try-out near the exam schedule. Selected youths will also get one free code for the certification examination.

Roles and Structure

The ASEAN Foundation is inviting all institutes of higher learning (universities, polytechnics, colleges) and vocational schools/high schools across the 10 ASEAN Member States to participate in the programme FREE OF CHARGE. Any interested institutes of higher learning and schools are required to send email to [email protected], copying [email protected], expressing their interest to participate in the programme by 19 May 2023, 23:59 GMT +7. The institution/school must then send a MANDATORY COMMITMENT LETTER signed by a relevant university faculty member (dean/vice dean, president/vice president, rector/vice rector, head of department, or school principal), highlighting the institution’s commitment to have their selected students completing their SAC courses and taking the examination within the set timeline. The ASEAN Foundation and SAP will provide up to 25 free certification slots for up to 25 students for each institution/school. Providing that the institution/school is keen to receive over 25 slots, it must express the request and the justification behind such request in the expression of interest email. The institution/school then must appoint one university/school coordinator (teacher, lecturer, or staff) as point-of-contact during the programme.

The university/school coordinator is responsible for the following:

• Selecting the students from their institution/school. Please see student eligibility section at the end of this document for selection process.
• Monitoring the learning progress of the students during the learning process and monitoring students’ exam taking date. The selected students and later their exam taking and passing dates need to be filled in THIS document template.
• Acting as the point of contact for students’ monthly enrichment sessions.
• Submitting a document presenting the learning progress of the students every month to the ASEAN Foundation. The template for the monthly learning progress of the students is available HERE.

The selected students are required to undertake the following:

• Completing the SAC course in https://learning.sap.com/learning-journey/explore-sap-analytics-cloud as preparation prior to the examination. All selected participants must commit to complete all learning units/chapters in the SAC course. The SAP Learning is a self-paced learning; thus, students must adjust their learning journey in accordance with their own schedule in 6 months (including taking the certification examination) from mid-June to mid-December 2023.
• Redeeming the examination code by 31 October 2023
• Taking the examination by 22 December 2023

To help students prepare for the examination, the ASEAN Foundation and SAP will conduct enrichment session, covering monthly mentorship with trained SAP colleagues on various SAC subjects and learning unit, a monthly live question and answer session by trained SAP colleagues, and exam try-out near the exam schedule.

Students who are interested to join any of these enrichment and monthly Q&A sessions should register directly in SAP Learning but must also enlist their name to the university/school coordinator as part of learning process tracking. The registration link to each monthly enrichment session and Q&A session will be distributed later to the university/school coordinator and the coordinator must distribute it to the students. After students finished registering, the link for each enrichment session and Q&A session will be sent directly to their registered email and students are expected to keep track of any upcoming email from the SAP Learning.

Selection criteria and eligibility

Below are the eligibility criteria for the participating youths:

• ASEAN nationalities aged 18 – 30;
• Youths living in tier 2/3 cities & marginalised places, youths with different abilities, youths with certain gender identity, youths from minor ethnic background, and youth from lower economic background are prioritised;
• Youths having IT background or having learned any IT software are preferred;
• Currently in final year of tertiary education (Diploma, Bachelor, Master) in a tertiary institution based in the 10 ASEAN Member States (AMS); OR Currently in the final year of high school/vocational school; OR Graduated from tertiary institutions based in the 10 AMS and looking for job opportunities; OR Currently employed and seeking decent and sustainable job opportunities;
• Committed to completing entire online learning journey and certification programme within 6 months;
• Having good English proficiency to maximise effective learning journey through the learning platform.
