ASEAN Youth Video Contest 2022: Applications Are Now Open!

We invite young ASEAN filmmakers to submit a 60-second video on the theme “Youth Addressing Challenges Together – Stay Dynamic in the Time of Pandemic: ACT now!”.

Background and Introduction

In this era of digitalisation, video and social media are powerful tools to promote ASEAN awareness as well as to the collective challenges the region faces in raising awareness on the need for inclusive education for equal participation and rights, a more open community to talk, discuss and resolve issues related to mental health and technological innovation for the region's development as part of achieving the goals of the ASEAN Community 2025, being a committed, inclusive, sustainable, resilient, dynamic and harmonious community.

Also, with the drawing of the social media has continued to improve its bandwidth, youth are enabled to share opinions and ideas across borders in real-time, impacting the views of their peers and expressing their creativity. Production of short videos using handphones has become one of the most widespread and powerful means of communication for youth.

Therefore, this year, the partnership between the ASEAN Foundation and ASEAN-USAID PROSPECT, with the support of SOMY, to organise the 6th ASEAN Youth Video Contest 2022, emphasises youths to take action and raise awareness through a video production competition.

This year’s competition is inspired by the ASEAN Chairmanship theme for 2022: “ASEAN A.C.T.: Addressing Challenges Together”[1] and the designation of 2022 as the Year of ASEAN Youth[2]. As one of this year’s biggest challenges for the region remains the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition will focus on how youth are addressing those challenges together. The 6th ASEAN Youth Video Contest 2022 theme is:

"Youths Addressing Challenges Together – Stay Dynamic in the Time of Pandemic: ACT now!"

The 6th AYVC 2022 will select ten best amateur videographers throughout the region to participate in a four-day expert-led workshop, where participants will receive training on video production to improve their submitted videos. The top three videos would then be awarded as winners of this initiative.

We invite young ASEAN filmmakers to submit a 60-second video on the theme “Youth Addressing Challenges Together – Stay Dynamic in the Time of Pandemic: ACT now!”. Ultimately, we see these videos helping to address the challenges around inclusive education, mental health, and technological innovation in ASEAN.

Be creative! The top ten entries will be given the opportunity to participate in an expert-led filmmaking workshop in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, hosted by the Senior Official Meeting on Youth (SOMY) Cambodia.

Please submit your video here by 8 May 2022.

This contest is supported by the U.S. Government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the U.S Mission to ASEAN, Ministry of Youth and Sport, Cambodia and the ASEAN Foundation, in coordination with ASEAN Member States through the ASEAN Secretariat.
