What?

The ASEAN Foundation is the people’s arm of ASEAN and is mandated by the ASEAN Charter to support the Secretary-General of ASEAN in supporting the ASEAN Community building process. The ASEAN Foundation inaugurated the ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting (or AFMAM) in 2015, held in conjunction with the 27th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Since then, the ASEAN Foundation has implemented the programme annually (2016-2019) in ASEAN Chair countries. However, due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 6th and 7th AFMAM were organised virtually.

In celebration of the momentous 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, the ASEAN Foundation and ASEAN-Japan Center proudly present the highly anticipated ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting Plus Japan 2023 (AFMAM Plus Japan 2023) in Jakarta, Indonesia. The ASEAN Foundation is organising its special edition of the ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting plus Japan 2023 (AFMAM + Japan 2023) to coincide with the ASEAN – Japan 50 Years Anniversary.

The AFMAM Plus Japan 2023 promises an authentic experience to understand ASEAN. With aims of advancing the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific and enhancing ASEAN diplomacy within the ASEAN and Japan, the programme will provide participants with an invaluable education experience with vast improvements in decision-making skills and knowledge on ASEAN and Japan affairs.

It is an interactive process where YOU, the students, will role-play a senior official of an ASEAN meeting and simulate how an ASEAN senior official engages in various ASEAN meetings. You will understand how ASEAN as an inter-governmental system works and will learn about the decision-making process to understand how regional agreements and cooperation are cultivated. It will be an interesting and enjoyable experience!

Take a snapshot peek of the previous events in 2015, 2016, 2017,2018, 2019, and 2020 !
