Media Engagement Consultant  

ASEAN Data Science Explorers (DSE) 2023 Regional Finals 

24 October 2023, Jakarta, Indonesia 

BACKGROUND  

Three decades after ASEAN was established, ASEAN leaders recognised that: there remained inadequate shared prosperity, ASEAN awareness and contact among the people of ASEAN. It was of this concern that ASEAN leaders established ASEAN Foundation in Jakarta, Indonesia, at ASEAN’s 30th Anniversary Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 15 December 1997. The ASEAN Foundation is an organisation from and for the people of ASEAN. The Foundation exists because of one vision: to build a cohesive and prosperous ASEAN Community. As an ASEAN body, the Foundation is tasked to support ASEAN mainly in promoting awareness, identity, interaction and development of the people of ASEAN. The ASEAN Foundation in partnership with SAP will organise the 7th ASEAN Data Science Explorers Regional Finals 2023 in ASEAN Hall, ASEAN Secretariat Heritage Building on 24 October 2023. The event will bring together 20 national champions from ten ASEAN countries, to present their data analytics-based findings and recommendations addressing socio-economic issues across following six SDGs: 1) Clean Water and Sanitation, (2) Affordable and Clean Energy, (3) Decent Work and Economic Growth, (4) Sustainable Cities and Communities, (5) Responsible Consumption and Production, and (6) Climate Action, using the SAP Analytics Cloud. By the end of the competition, three winning teams will be awarded regional champions.  

To publicly announce the programme as well as the partnership to regional stakeholders, the ASEAN Foundation and SAP will co-organise the ASEAN Data Science Explorers 2023 Regional Finals on the 24 October 2023, at ASEAN Secretariat, Jakarta, Indonesia.  

In connection with the above, the ASEAN Foundation is seeking capable Media Engagement Consultant to ensure good media coverage for the event. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

 In collaboration with the Communications Consultant for ASEAN DSE and under the guidance of the Head of Communications of ASEAN Foundation, the Consultant is expected to carry out the following assignments: 

• Develop one press release in Bahasa Indonesia and one in English highlighting the ASEAN DSE Regional Finals, ASEAN DSE’s key information, the importance of data science and digital literacy empowerment in ASEAN, and regional partnership between ASEAN Foundation, and SAP. The press release will have, among others, quote from the two organisations, quote from the Ministry of Education and quote from the winning team, and photos of the event. 
• Disseminate the press release to media outlets in Jakarta, including international media. 
• Organise an on-site press conference 
• Invite media to attend the press conference  
• Organise a briefing for the press conference and prepare a FAQ guide to response to the questions from the media 
• Deliver a media monitoring report 

EXPECTED OUTCOME AND OUTPUTS  

OUTCOME:  

At least 15 printed and online media clippings generated from the 7th ASEAN DSE Regional Finals 2023 

OUTPUT:  

1. 1 press release in Bahasa Indonesia and 1 press release in English 
2. 1 proposed list of media outlets in Jakarta interested to cover the event 
3. 1 press conference
4. 1 spokesperson briefing and a FAQ guide 
5. 1 post-event media monitoring report covering relevant data 

TIMELINE:  

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS:  

All information pertaining to this project belonging to the ASEAN Foundation, which the consultant may come into contact within the performance of his/her duties under this assignment, shall remain the property of the ASEAN Foundation, which shall have exclusive rights over their use. Except for this assignment, the information shall not be disclosed to the public nor used in whatever without written permission of the ASEAN Foundation in line with the national and International Copyright Laws applicable. 

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:  

1. A professional PR Agency/consultant 
2. Has experience in working/engaging ASEAN entities
3. Has excellent media networks in Indonesia and Singapore 
4. Possess good flexibility in receiving last-minute changes and request from the client 
5. Able to work under pressure and meet tight timelines without affecting the quality of the work results
