Youth Volunteerism Innovation Challenge

SAP and ASEAN Foundation collaborated with the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) to launch the Youth Volunteering Innovation Challenge (YVIC) across ASEAN member states.

Under the theme “Impact ASEAN,” the initiative aims to support young volunteers throughout the ASEAN countries in their journey to catalyse youth-led innovation for social impact and sustainable development.

YVIC trains and equips local social enterprises with relevant entrepreneurship knowledge and skills through locally held national workshops. In 2017, these workshops held nationwide competitions and the winners participated in the regional mentorship orientation in Bangkok, Thailand. The top three winning teams were awarded start-up grants and were matched with a mentor for the duration of one month to support them as they protoype their ideas. Thus, YVIC is a programme that gives financial and mentorship support to social enterprises.

SAP employees volunteered their time as mentors to share their skills and experiences to provide guidance and support to these social enterprises to refine their ideas and scale up their Impact Projects.

Throughout the challenge, participants were encouraged to vlog their experience once they begun their journey with their respective mentors. Three finalists - Ecofun (Indonesia), Nino Nina Co (Philippines) and Tune Map (Indonesia) - were awarded mentorship and financial support for their projects in 2017.
