ASEAN Youth Video Contest

The ASEAN Youth Video Contest engages young people by using interactive media to ignite a sense of excitement of being a part of the ASEAN Community, and develop a sense of familiarity with the ASEAN identity. By taking part in a video contest to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the ASEAN community, ASEAN youth can come to their own understanding of being a part of ASEAN. The ASEAN Youth Video Contest is endorsed by the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Youth and designed to generate a better understanding of the ASEAN Community and its dynamic, particularly among the region’s younger demographic. Since its inception in 2015, the programme has been empowering 47 ASEAN youths.

The initiative aims to select ten best amateur videographers through in the region to partake in an expert-led workshop, where the participants will receive training on video production skills to improve their submitted videos. Three participants with the best videos will be crowned as ASEAN winners and received attractive prizes.

For 2019, the ASEAN Foundation with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through the ASEAN-USAID PROSPECT project, and the ASEAN-German Energy Programme (AGEP), a cooperation jointly implemented by ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) implemented the 5th ASEAN Youth Video Contest with the theme “Renewable Energy: Powering ASEAN’s Bright Future” in May 2019.
